Default Charging system

1986 wide glide, upgraded to 32amps years ago, upgraded headlight to LED protector a few years ago. Question is.... what would be the first symptom of a problem with stator or rectifier? I'm getting a slight strope light affect that matches my tach flutter at idle.
It is charging fine still but curious if something is going on. Is there anything that can be installed in line to clean the signal? Faulty relay on the pos batt terminal, it's old.
New bikes don't do this so there must be something to make an old scooter be as good.

Usually that is an indication that the charting system is on its way out.. I would take an analog voltmeter and put it across your battery and see what it's doing.. Digital multimeters will not pick up an increase in decrease in voltage like an analog meter will.

See if it's charging at 2000 rpm. See what it shows at idle and then it should increase as the rpm's go up. If it doesn't. Then test your individual components.

14.7 volt is getting too high which is telling me that your regulator is not shunting properly.. You're going to have failure soon..
One thing I forgot to mention was to check all your grounds.. Engine to frame and regulator to frame, everything...

Some good points already made.
So for a first thought I 'd be double cking the ground path for the light.
Black lead on meter to battery neg and positive lead to the ground wire for the light. Maybe for the tach too
See what it reads

I missed the 14.7 business. Get that ck'd

Would not hurt to check for raw ac being sent throughout the system (again points to the regulator going out) also.

End result is: a new cycle electric or comp-u-fire regulator in the near future.

Battery is only two years old though... what should it read after a start up? Maybe I'll check the voltage at idle and 2000 RPM after my next ride,it should be much lower I would think.
