I wouldn't mount a spare, just carry enough tools to raise the tank so you can change it. It may last forever... Actually, you'd be hard pressed to find a spot that gets better air flow than the stock location. Take a glove off and reach down there (close as you can) at road speed, you'll see what I mean.
The first coil with mine lasted 200 miles. Hit rain and that was it. Sat roadside for 1/2 hour after the storm till it dried out. Started right up. Got home, sprayed Windex under there and killed it. The housing separated at the molded seam. That was an easy troubleshoot
The modules themselves are nearly bullet proof by reputation (with exception of the Hi-4)
Well, wasnt going to mount the spare, just chuck it in the tour pack or something, and I do carry enough tools to do minor surgery, provided I can figure whats wrong though I usually can. oh and I have stock compression and a mild cam. Was L grind and put in an EV13 for just a little extra oomph.

Not to rain on your parade, but if you do plan on "reprogramming" a new curve into either the ultima or the dynatek ignition module, the data/programming cable may be difficult to obtain. (The same cable can be used for either brand).
There was a guy who made them and sold them for a fair price, but he stopped making/selling them. I think dynatek still has them but last time I checked they are a bit pricey.
My 1994 (see sig below for mods), likes the #2 dynatek curve the best for 87 pump gas.
Ah yes, gasmoline, I can always choose mid grade or premium if that will tamp down a ping also will keep the VOES hooked up, I reckon the device will respond to it appropriately
I saw this on Ebay the other day, It's a knock off Ultima Ignition.. Add says $64.98 or make offer.. So I did, $50.00.. The seller accepted and should be here in a few days.. I'll let you all know how it works.. Hopefully it will come with instructions and mainly what the ignition curves are.. But I figure for $50, I've threw away more...
I read some reviews (somewhere) that said doesn't come with instructions. I'm assuming the red wire on the cheapo is same as the pink on the Dyna/Ultima.
So far as curves, they'll be the same as one of the other brand names. Again, an assumption. Only real difference between D2ki / 53-644 is the "wot" portion of advance curve(s).
It might not work out of the box, it may last a while or it could last forever! Hope so.
