Thanks for all the replies. I got to it today, Coil seems okay within spec as per manual. doesn't address re hot but trying to keep it budget here. Checked stator not running, seems okay as per manual, OL and 4.5 as I recall. checked Ignition module output as per manual seems ok, Carb was full of gas, squirts when I hit the throttle, petcock has no vac line so I figure it's not a fuel issue..

Emptied the fuel tank will buy some fresh gas.

I ordered a pickup. $ 80 CAD, be here Tues or so... Will report back

Dano.. I do want to get at the oil leak, seems I have a few days of waiting here so.. Question for you and for all is how do I remove the tubes covering the lifter rods? They're not stock, don't seem to untwist, I can pry them up for say 1/4 or 1/2" but that's all. Even if the rods are adjustable which I believe they are I cant get at em? Nt too big a job pulling the heads, especially now I have the tank off and coil out but I'd rather not If I don't have to. besides how would I set the adjustable rods if the covers aren't removable... Confused. Has anyone seen these type of rod covers?

Thanks again to all.
Cheers

I remember those pushrod tubes...but...gonna need to jog what is left of my memory...I would have bet they unscrew... looking..
Generally accompanied Adjustable pushrods...But, early on...adjustables did Not necessarily mean removeable...
Edit; Maybe someone knows how to Google images...I gots No Younger Folks handy just now!!!
Edit again...; Next time I'm in town I will encounter about an 8-12 year-old and have em do that with my Phone...

Got it running. Installed the new pickup, advanced the timing quite a bit, it runs. I'll go through the timing procedure tomorrow but it starts and stops and idled for ten min no problem. Gladly accept any advice on timimg but I think I have it clear enough.

Any more thoughts on the tubes will be appreciated, I have tried but apparently it will take a bit more muscle, don't want to break them just because I'm too lazy to pull the valve covers off.

Anyways, thanks to all for your input.

Cheers
