Default Chinese D2ki

G'Day all.

I am going to give one of those Chinese D2ki ignitions a try, ordered one today and it should be here in a week or so.
Currently running points in my 84 Softail, happy with the old points but I do know she will run better with a better ignition system.
I have an Ultima system in my 94 Dyna and I have ran D2ki in the past on my old Heritage that I should never of sold, anyway the Ultimu costs $605 over here in sunny Aus
and the D2ki is around $800.
The Ultimu I got 2 yrs ago for the Dyna was around $340 so our prices have got nuts, this unit costs me $97.00 delivered.

So, the question is......has anyone heard and good/bad raps about these cheap systems?
I will install the unit when it arrives and keep my advance/retard unit and points plate in my tool bag just in case it f*cks up when I am on the road.
I'll let you all know how it goes.

Dave.

I have seen them, but no experience with them. Being that the Dynatek curves and the Ultima curves are different, I wonder what the curves are for the knock offs...

I would be interested in hearing how you like it after some miles/use with it. Good idea on the back up.

I think you will have to swap out coil, 3 ohm vs. 5 ohm ,

Mate of mine fitted one here in NZ and...well...it didn't work...he sent it back and got a proper one.

Been running Ultima's in the White Bike for 18 years, have had 1 fail, had a issue would drop a cylinder at idle rpm's turning out to be Ultima's junk coils, other time it shut off. The shutdown failure is possibly due to high compression big cube heat, the engine has been pulled back & top shelf Jagg cooler, haven't had a problem since

Ultima coil with the kit is junk, 3 ohm is needed too. Ultima timing curves are more advanced than the dyna. Shovel I purchased had a new Ultima module in it, the Shovel was the go to bike last year making all day rides.

Well I got the unit on Tuesday, been flat out at work all week so I will fit the unit today.
I have a 3 ohm coil so I will swap out the 5 and new plugs.
Will let you know how she goes.

Morning all.
Finely got the unit installed and fired up this morning, changed out coils and leads, new plugs and timed as per D2ki install instructions.
I don't have a tacho or VOES so only 2 wires to the coil, as per D2ki I selected curve 2.

Well she fired right up, bike hasn't been started for 3 weeks and its starting to get cold here, with the points she would start and stop once or twice when cold before settling into a nice idle.
She fired right up 1st go and settled down nicely, very happy. I may get a short ride in today to see how she's running but I doubt it as it's been pouring rain all week and doesn't look like giving up anytime soon.

I will keep you updated on how she runs, in the short and long term.

Dave.

Sounds good, keep your ears open for pinging. Hopefully curve #2 is the same on yours as the Dynatek curve.

Probably difficult to find, but I wonder if the Dynatek programming software and cable works on the Chinese clones. Would be interesting to know for sure what curve you’re actually running.

Consider installing a VOES in the future. While not mandatory, it does help with engine and fuel efficiency.

Hello.
I know its been a while since I posted how this unit runs but I wanted to get a few hundred km's on it 1st.
I'm very happy with it, have put 340km's on the bike since install and she runs great.
Performs just like the Dyna 2K I had on my Heratige, starts easy and performs great thru the whole rev range, I will keep my points setup in my tool roll just in case. Easy roadside swap out if this thing dies....here's hoping it has some life in it.

Dave.
