Just picked up a 1998 Dyna. I have owned a dozen bikes at this point, of every kind. This thing is a real pleasure to ride. Love it.

Likewise, bought a '98 Super Glide myself late last year and love it too, probably my favorite bike out of the 15 I've owned (only two Harleys so far)...did some research and held out for a '96+ and FWIW the '98's also dispensed with the problematic clutch spring plate, AKA "grenade plate".

97 was the last year for the spring plate in the clutch..98 was the first year for the new style clutch without spring plate and had 9 frictions plates and 8 Steels..

Yep, you did, when they come apart (plenty though not all have) they do serious damage to the clutch basket, etc. The '98 big twin went to a judder spring setup (parts 14, 15, and 23 below) which is reliable. FWIW I deleted the spring plate retrofitted a judder spring to my Sportster to avoid trouble, all '91-2022 5 speed Sportsters have a grenade plate. That would PROBABLY work on pre-98 big twins as they used the same spring plate as Sportsters. The judder spring parts I used are from a XR1200/Buell XB and are not the same as the '98+ big twin.
