Not cleaning the ground location is the end nail - new build add a good clean contact motor to frame is not a bad idea your in pieces anyway

The beauty of improving the old bikes with newer model, cheap takeoff or salvage parts.

All I can say is, I will Never PC a Harley (any MC really) frame again...Ground Loops on our Dragbike were Killer!!
Any scars or other Damage repair is Difficult at best...and Removal...cost more than application...Like I said...Paint was good enough for my Shovelhead...so.. I'll stick with Paint...thanks. BTW The Factory Probably did PC because it is Cheaper...Guaranteed it was Not more Expensive!!!

Splurge enough paint on a frame and you'll still have the same problem.

For me, the answer is to understand the problem and prepare the frame for PC accordingly.

I agree about applying too many coats and having the same problem, but at least paint can be removed with chemicals that do not remove or damage metal. And since I do my own painting, I can control how much paint goes on. Paint doesn't have any strength, so if it's too thick, it is more easily damaged or chipped anyway.

The main problem I have with powder coating is that they all sand blast everything. At least I haven't found anyone that does it differently. With the coaters I've used, they will take note of the places I mark and not coat them. But any threaded holes are still need to be chased. Cast markings are usually covered up and made unreadable and in my mind not suitable for restores of vintage or antique frames.

I can't imagine anyone sand blasting an early HD frame with sweated brazed gussets. But I've seen it done, and the frame will never be the same. Now if it's an aftermarket or custom built frame for a chopper build, I get it. But I don't think it is a good choice for everything. But it is much more durable and chemical resistant than paint.

We have a powder coating plant here at my place of work. The frame was chemically stripped...primed then top coated. All holes were plugged with silicone plugs. Where the engine bolts to the frame is bare metal to metal contact same as where the earths will be bolted.....I have done this on many bikes. Each to their own in preference.

Cheers
