Default Need advice FXLR Build

Have a 91 FXLR looking to convert to magneto and points with a kick Starter. Have found a magneto conversion kit, just looking for advice on the kicker kit. Found a few for the 80 in with 5 speed trans on sites like J&P but the sites say it won't fit my model even though its the same engine and trans as the soft tail. Anyone know why it wouldn't work?

Probably because the exhaust system. You may have to fabricate a system around the kick starter. Most of the kick start kits for 5 speed transmissions are Chinese garbage. Buyer beware.

No Reason in the world for a Kick Starter on such modern equipment.. And Quality and Looks suffer from Chiwanese input!!
Beyond that...I do not feel confident in sourcing decent quality Points,,,and Condensers do Not get routinely Replaced around here,,,Newer is less likely to even Function!!
I have a Hard enough time sourcing Quality Mechanical advance units!! The O.E. EI is pretty damn bullet proof. And, The Only advantage to Aftermarket EI, and Pints too...Is Higher RPM...which is How HP gains are Achieved. More RPM is Always More HP...Look up how HP is Measured!!

I have a Rivera mechanical advance unit in my Sportster. It's a quality unit, but I don't know if they are still available. It's a good thing to disassemble, clean, and lubricate them fairly often so the pins don't wear out, no matter what brand you are using.

Agree...I just have Not seen that particular Riviera unit lately.. and yet, If one takes really good care and feeding of an original OE unit...They are still superior!! But...I have Not seen Quality parts in a very long time..Weights and Springs!
