I get it, I'm retired and have too much time on my hands. I’ve been guilty lurking around Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, and local area swap meets picking up parts and projects that I don’t need. It’s a sickness really. My family and friends have pleaded with me to seek Professional help or to join Motorcycle Hoarders Anonymous, but so far, I have resisted.
No, no and no, wrong thinking, it's a hobby that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
Beside doing that in my young broke days is how I could afford to build and have a nice bike when the ex wives were trying to spend every dime they could get their hands on. I never let either know how much I was making at the monthly swapmeets hustling, but the bike was always running and we had a few bucks come trip time. Drove them both crazy they couldn't get their hands on any of it.
Latest project I call Charity Case, $2k bike with a story. Knocking all the stupid off it and the usual rigged up stuff people do, lets me move some the stuff I've had around for far too many years so cash out of pocket is low, motor and trans are solid in this thing. Come spring it'll be on the market for $5500 or so. Prices on shovels are getting crazy

Man that bike looks clean. Are the tins as nice as they look in the picture?
You are exactly right about it being a hobby. I would have sold the FXRS last season but I had a knee replacement that took me out of action for a few months. That and The Rolling Stones were on tour. The wife and I belong to a Stones fan club so if she says she wants to go see a few shows and hang with friends in a few cities I can't complain. As long as she lets me have my toys. She likes the 99 Heritage. She thinks its pretty. I told her I was afraid to show her and she why? I'm not going to get in the way of your addiction lol.
Sheet metal is clean, paint overall I’d put at 85%, usual spots for chips & scuffs. Pictures doing more justice than seeing it, but I’m cleaning a lot of that and losing a lot of chrome, that will go in a box with it. Bones are solid, good drivetrain, it’ll be a solid runner when it goes. Targeting the wanna be crew that are hot to trot for a shovel for a bobber or chopping. Since it’s a true Frankenstein I have no qualms hustling it that way. Been good to get back into it, age and the job were sucking me down more than I realized till after I’d been retired several months.

Congratulation on the retirement. I am getting close myself. Main obstacle is living situation right now. We have an old 2 story colonial, no bath on the first floor, steep steps out to the yard, a downhill driveway and a small garage. We have been house hunting trying to find a rancher with at least a 2-car garage and enough room for my wife to be able to have some backyard chickens. If I get lucky, I will find something with enough room to throw up a pole barn, so I won't have to move bikes all around when I want to work on something.
Dangerous Winter and idle hands... (actually I am frikkn busy).
Just put a deposit. 1989 FLHS 57,000 miles. Very clean. I don't see any UV fade on the black paint. Inside of the tank looks great. Feels tight from the ride. Giving me the spare black and alloy rims with tires and the original mufflers (no dings or marks!)... $3,750. I'll insure it, weather is garbage right now, and ride it 80 miles back when it's over 40 degrees and not salty on the roads. I already have shop and parts manuals, just need newer clutch tools and whatever I find I need. Clutch spring feels heavy, Has a butterfly carb and 3 year old rubber compliance fittings. Doesn't seem to have the flat spot at 2100 rpm that my FXRS has (probably no air leaks!). ... so now 2 bikes I want to convert to CV carbs. I'll keep it as is and see how it feels for a while. Very excited about this now. I miss my 85 FLH. Always wanted the newer transmission and clutch release.
