I stole your line, the owner and I got a laugh out of - Carbureted, as God intended !!
I don't mind fuel injection in the car but for all the vibrating, chafing, little black boxes, I prefer the carb.

I look at market place just about every day. There are at least 15 evos forsale in my area under 7k and as low as 5k. All nice under 20k miles and clean. They are out there.

I think I need DOGE to come take a look at my garage before I buy another bike. I just spent the morning moving cars, charging and installing batteries, and moving bikes just so I can get to the 84 FXST. I have of things I need to do to her.

Just brought home the black 89 FLHS I posted about. 80 mile trial by fire! It's almost everything I remember about my 85 FLH frame from 30 years ago. Wheels balanced really nice. I don't remember a spoke rim being smooth at every speed. My 86 Liberty Sportster had a vibration from 55-65, then went away above. Frame, engine were buttery smooth. Wiggling it down the swingarm felt tight. The belt looked brand new (odo shows 57,000). The rivets are still on the timing cover. The previous owner told me the original owner had some head work done (over 20 years ago). I have to check for adjustable pushrods. Charging ok. Starts right up after a long ride. I think it has a Pingle petcock, no reserve position. Gas gauge works so far.
I think there is a carb issue, for a while didn't want to go over 50 mph. Eventually got to 60-65 mph and I pushed it to 70 or so but then too much popping and missing. I think a plug fouled for a bit like a mile (my girlfriend following me was like, oh is that when the black smoke was coming out ??). I was imagining all sorts of things like collapsed lifters etc. But no clacks or ticks. No leaks right now.
I will go over the butterfly carb and eventually get a solid manifold and a CV carb I think. So far, I'm very happy I got this. It's so comfortable and I can really see it soaking up the miles. I'll do the fluids and see how stuff looks.

Interesting side note with evos in general, been watching the bike market since retiring 2 years ago, slipping back into old habits with hustling stuff. You don’t see all that many evos come up for sale, twin cams are a dime a dozen around here. I’m seeing them low as $2500 running. That’s telling in many ways.

The was my experience, took some patience but the right very clean '98 Super Glide came along last year and I jumped on it. I figure that will be the case for quite awhile as baby boomers are aging out of riding every day. (I'm one too but am not there yet ;-)
Did a good bit of work to get rid of some crappy aftermarket parts but it was well worth the trouble...

Same around here. Evos are selling for more than TCs.
Someone on here said Evos are like the new Shovels and Shovels are becoming like the Pans. Speaking from a price perspective.
