Did a good bit of work to get rid of some crappy aftermarket parts but it was well worth the trouble...

Yeah that's a nice clean good looking bike.

Man, I gotta say that is one sweet Super Glide.. Nice score. I have to say that once I bought a Dyna I might never get another softail...

1983, before the big reveal I was hot to trot over the softail idea, local KC dealer Worth, was going to get some of the first, small tight community then unlike today. Ridden several over the years since and I'm glad I didn't jump the shark early. They got the looks but for how I liked to ride cannot beat the classic super glide feel and handling for a non touring bike.

My softail Springer is the first softail I’ve ever owned. I love it. It’s not going anywhere but it defiantly doesn’t deliver in the handling category.

Have you guys ridden the later mono-shock incarnation of the Softails, and if so do you still favor the older Super Glides for handling compared to the mono-shock Softails?
I have heard people say they’re “the new FXR”, and perhaps H-D is pushing that with the style of Lowrider ST. I have a 2020 Slim, and it surely has lean-angle limitations.

It really depends on which Softail you get. The Standard or Custom really does handle very well because of the 2" over on the front compared to the Fatboy or Heritage. Can't speak for the Springers, I don't know what the height is from the ground to the top of the triple tree. I do know that when I went 2' over on my Fatboy it made a huge difference in the handling but you still sit "ON" it unlike my Dyna where it feels like you sit "IN" it..

I agree and I love how mine feels especially with the 28 degree rake. I feel like the bike is an extension of me, but I'm sure that has a lot to do with how long I have ridden it. I just feel comfortable and confident on the bike. Keeping in mind that over confidence can get you into trouble.

I have also used that "I sit in it, not on it" analogy. The other one I say when people ask me how I like it is: "it's the second best handling big twin Harley ever made". IMO, FXR comes first in handling but the FXR to me has a more compact or scrunched up feel to it where the Dyna just feels more "roomy". Hard to describe but it's something I did notice when shopping.

I came from 1970's Triumphs and 1980's sportsters so I really wanted "how it felt" (without it being butt ugly) to be a big part of my purchase decision when moving on to a Harley big twin. I wanted some handling ability and definitely did not want a couch either but comfort in the saddle was required.

I don’t know. I ride hard. Through the twists I scrape both sides way too often. Maybe it’s partly the springer front. It’s lowered 1.5 inches in back. So if I raised to factory I may gain a tad more cornering ability. The Progressive rap are at maximum now. Any softer and I scrape even more.

I scrape at the forwards, exhaust and even primary cover.

I had the same with the Fatboy in the twisties.. Couldn't push it.. I can now but I also have a stiffer suspension Heavy 422's on the rear and Progressive cartridge drop in's..
