I scrape at the forwards, exhaust and even primary cover.
I just had to adjust my riding, low speed hard right turns on my lowered Springer with the 2:1 D&D would hit hard enough that it automatically made you go vertical, I could feel the push up but also the thought of the grand I spent on the pipe getting ground down made me just be aware more.
Springers are a little twitchy only lowered in the rear.

89 FLHS stuff. Been looking at some rear light goodies and a taller windshield. Then I saw the shifter lever coming out of the trans is loose (I should have messed with that at the previous owner's place). I tried to tighten the pinch bolt but it won't budge. It's still wiggly. So ..... always looking for an excuse to take the inner primary off !! hahaha. 57,000 maybe cleve fittings for the swingarm? Belt? Cycle Electric alternator? friction plates, newer pulley nut and lock, etc.

At least the tools seem to be the same as my 85 FXRS. Then carb and cam/bearings/sensor/lifters ?

Not sure, ride with a lot of sport and super bikes… never let them see Harley bleed. Make them doubt what their daddy’s told them. Do what they think Harley’s can’t and leave them nashing their teeth through the night as they toss and turn seeing that steel and chrome HotRod defy their known reality as they try to sleep. Ya want them to wake up in a sweat and doubt all that they know.

Pride, competitiveness, ambition.. ok, stupidity won’t let me back off much. Yeah… some of them leave me at the dragon or other snake shaped roads… but not all of them. Some of their brethren I pass or manage to stay ahead of. When we reach our destinations I love when they start stretching their backs and doubting the cost of their tank spooning. When they uncouple and try to stand straight up they see me nice and cozy and relaxed. They look at their power Ranger mobiles with a slight disdain. That’s when I like to remind them of how many hundreds of miles remain.

The seed of doubt has already shifted the tides.. 12 bikes with one being a Harley is now 5 Harleys… and the other power rangers that remain see their numbers dwindle.

An FXR with a 113, cooling fans, shaved 60-80 lbs might just finish them off should I ever pull the trigger. That or a 1800cc Sportster S with chrome spoke wheels, handlebars, engine covers and mid controls.

Soon it will be down to the two Busa’s and the cbr 1000r. The z900 knows I can take him in the Straightaways.. he has me in the curves but the triumphs and the v-max don’t… we’ll, ok That little scrambler and the riding abilities of the driver are pretty aggressive. Heck the Sportster S’s and Nightster are taking the V-max. And the z900 doesn’t really out run the Nightster rider even in the twisties. The score board is turning Orange and Black.

I hear what you're saying and I do respect that because there's nothing better than showing some of these guys out there that our Harley's can perform. Of course they don't come set up for twisties and the kind of riding we like to put them through and it does take money to do that but they will compete.
I'd love to check out one of those Sportster S's but I'm not going to drag my knees in the corners.. Maybe some metal but not my knees.. Lol..

LOL

As always my analogy is the same. When the blown 57 Chevy shows up at the dragstrip and runs like a bat out of hell everybody cheers and hollers. But when the snot nose kid with daddy’s money shows up in the Ferrari, who the heck cares. You can’t expect that 57 Chevy to go through the turns like the Ferrari. But if the guy can hold his on… everybody loses their mind.

I hear ya, BUT and huge but, you seen my Springer it was meant to go straight and was built with that in mind. I would never choose a Softail for twistys, Springer wasn’t the best candidate for drags either but that was my compromise. V twin torque would hole shot almost any soy sauces bike, and if my buddies on a Vrod or M109 snoozed at the light I would be successful beating much faster bikes
I got the FXR and Dyna for twistys.

I honestly didn’t know any better. This Springer is the only softail I’ve ever owned. I found out after that it doesn’t handle well for aggressive turns. It about on par with the Road King. The upgraded suspension on the King made it a lot better through the turns then it was previously. It doesn’t grind rock into the ground as soon as the softail but it is heavy. An FXR or Sportster S may be the ticket. I’m going through some thin months financially so those addictions will need to wait. Got hit with medical expenses, cam phasers.. and 130 miles later blown turbo’s.. AC went out. It’s been a very expensive few months on top of work being extremely slow. So big chunks going out and hardly anything coming in. Construction is a roller coaster and you can get hit with a massive change on a dime. I’ve been a hard core Ford guy for my whole life but this stupid truck has just about made me hate ford. First truck ever I chose to not be my own mechanic… I paid 20k for it within months I’ve sunk 14k in it and it worth about 23-25k. I hate being held hostage to large repair bills due to tech I know nothing about.

I test rode a Heritage about 8 or 9 years ago. The bike looked great but as soon as I got on it I knew I wouldnt like it. I turned right out of the dealership parking lot and drug the footboards while barely leaning at all. It happened almost every time I made a turn.
It also felt really buzzy.
I went with another Road King instead and since then I have gone back to a Dyna.

Come on over to GM, you know if we were allowed to add GMC and Chevrolet sales together, the whole best selling truck in America for 5 decades is not even close to true.
The look of the Softail, is what made it so popular, they have never had a reputation for great handling.

I think I’m gonna go the other way… every big full-size pick up I look into has a gazillion gloom & Doom YouTube and forum un happy owners with chronic repair issues. I’m gonna sell this Lariat and buy something old and cool with a push rod v8 AND NO FANCY ELECTRONICS.

I was a Hardtail guy down to my core. The Softail was a compromise. Truth I really don’t like FXR’s appearance….. it is what it is.
