Yes, I want to put the originals back on. I like the low key sound with them. I had Cycle shack duals on my 85 FLH but that had Axtell angle top 10:1 pistons w a cam and Mikuni. I'd like to keep this one closer to stock. it looks like it has a Pingle petcock w no reserve, just On and Off.
I have two threads going. The other I started trying to get help to figure out what was going on with a tank decal. It is not original and the seller says original owner had it done "just because" https://www.hdforums.com/forum/softa...l#post21946594
Below is my last post on that thread. The bike is a 97 Fatboy. I'm not the only person looking at it. Seller told me before I went to look at it thursday that he had someone coming saturday and was giving him till then. Saturday the seller messaged me that the other person is interested, and now the $7K bike I looked at is $7500.
from other thread: I went and checked out the 97 Fatboy Thursday. It was dusty but the paint looks great, aside from a little knick at the bottom of the rear fender and a chip on the front fender. The decal looks to have been clear coated over so it may be a repaint. Seller had a pint of silver paint on the shelf and said he had some red touch up somewhere. Looks to have a Mikuni under the hypercharger. Owner doesn't have much info on the bike but remembers original owner saying something about a cam also. He has it parked next to an Ultra Classic which probably explains why he has only put 400 miles on it in the time that he has owned it. that and two little girls, he is at the baby making stage of life.. Someone came to look at it saturday and seller messaged me and said $7500 and its mine. I asked about the carb, the hypercharger ,etc and he said that was all done by the original owner. I called the dealership with the vin and original owners name and the dealership and the service rep couldn't find any records on the bike. Must have been done at a local indy shop so there's that. I'm going to have to go take a second, better look and see how it runs before committing to it. Too many unknowns. It may be a diamond, or it might be a turd.
If you've fallen in love with it, there's nothing anyone says on a forum that will change your mind. But I don't like all of the aftermarket "Tack - ons", especially the Hypercharger. Hyperchargers are more for show than go. The front wheel, the shotgun pipes, all of the scratches...it might be a bar hopper/beater. It sends me a message, the previous owner fell prey to every cliche add - on out there. Maybe the current owner is telling the truth and is too busy to ride, but the low number of miles he's put on a recent purchase is suspicious. I would be concerned that maybe the first owner didn't really know what he was doing. This new owner might be trying to get rid of a bike with problems. You might be signing up for a lot of undoing. I'd pass.
However, if you love the bike, that makes up for all I've said. After all...maybe you found a peach!

I don't know what bikes are going for in your area, but the price seems awfully high to me especially since it has modifications, some like the hyper-charger are not an improvement. For me to spend that kind of money the bike would have to be bone stock with very little mileage and in pristine as new condition. Also,I think that the seller is jerking you around upping the price. Frankly I'd walk.

I would have to agree. I don’t like being jerked around on price. I bet he doesn’t have anyone else interested and just trying to get more. I would walk away.
I looked in the help section but all that i see there is technical assistance. I am looking for help with my WMCBS. Winter motorcycle buying syndrome. It happens every year. The days get shorter, The temperatures drop, roads are covered with salt and I get start getting bored. When I get bored I start shopping.
My latest obsession is wanting another EVO. Heritage, Fatboy, or Nostalgia/Special. I had a line on a 96 Nostalgia, Eagle Green/Silver paint job with only 1500 miles on it. By the time I got the guy on the phone and found out what I wanted to know about it he already had a guy from Texas sending a carrier to pick it up. Now I am looking at an unmolested 1999 Heritage Softail Classic. 25K miles, paint looks perfect other than needing a detail. What has me hooked on this one is its a 99, last and what should be the best version of the EVO, unmolested and clean, two tone paint, and its reasonably priced at 6300/OBO.
This will be a fifth Harley in the garage that I complain all the time about how small it is. I plan on trying to sell the 82 FXRS when spring gets here. That was another bike I had to have one year. Turns out it is not a very comfortable ride and if one has to go, she would be the one.
So the question isn't "I am nuts?" I know I'm nuts. Is it OK to be a little nuts if you aren't hurting anyone??
Very nice bike! I will green-light the purchase of it on one condition - that you rip that Hypercharger air cleaner off and throw it in the nearest trash can.
Black at $3,750 is fair and about the going rate, maybe even a little better than fair. The Red one… If I really really loved it and it was very close to how I’d want it, I’d offer $5,500 and walk otherwise.
