On that thread I mentioned, the reading was 0.3 - 0.5 ohm. That's little spread. You were just saying replace never mentioned how easy or how to check. Do you even have a meter?

And by the way, who were you telling that too. Remember, type a few line and direct it the those asking questions.

I make my money with meter. Using one pretty much every day.. That is how I knew my coil ohmed good, but turned out to be bad.

I remember checking/inspecting the coil when I rebuilt the motor a couple years ago. Ohms were in spec and no signs of heat (discoloration). My gut tells me to get another coil as backup. I think I developed a lack of trust in coils back when I was younger, riding pieced together Yamahas and Suzuki dirt bikes/enduros. Do we still call them 'enduros'?

I still use that term for dual sports.

Yankee Dog, good point, my ignition was replaced with Dyna 2000i when I rebuilt the motor about 7k miles ago.
Dyna 2000i is a great single-fire set up from what I've read/seen. With only 7K miles, I don't think you have anything to worry, even with 70K miles. It's electronics, so they could go out anytime. If I really wanted insurance, I would buy a single-fire coil (J&P has the $50) for a spare. I still run the stock ignition on my bike, so I carry a complete ignition system on long travels (coil, pick-up sensor plate, and module). Coil and module can be found at swapmeets, and I would just buy an new sensor plate. All not much for the peace of mind. I hope you make that ride. It would be special.
