That’s good to hear, thanks. Do you leave the outside surface of the seal dry..? I’ve read that lubricating that area to enhance ease of installation leads to leaking.

Good explaination...and the subject of Much Controversy..especially to the "read the Manual" Types.. with stock primary..spring facin primary...with Belt drive etc..spring facing Crank...

I’ve followed your posts as someone who knows a lot more than I about these bikes. For all my miles on this ‘85, ( 327,000 and counting ) this is my deepest dive into her. Never pulled the inner primary.
I have discovered that a length of 2” Sched 40 PVC pipe fits perfectly into the “ slot “ on the seal between the metal rim and the spring. Perhaps a field expedient installation tool..?

Holy crap! 327,K ! I just got an 89 FLHS and I figured on pulling the inner, ... just because! I do have a good reason right now (trans shifter loose), but, ... while I'm in there !!

Looking at the stator, it seems like it is burnt in some places.
Is it the light in the photo or does it have burned coils?

Thanks for the suggestion, Mongo. I’ll give that a good look.
