No judgement on my part, but everytime I see someone worried over things like this, I think of the time I wired up a 480 blower hot standing in ankle deep water.
Damn oilfield was fun back in the day.
Griz
You're not the average guy, though. For the average guy or gal, I recommend disconnecting the negative battery terminal when doing electrical stuff.
G'day Fellas.
Everyone needs one of these
I use mine all the time. Shows you voltage, ohms resistance (the lower the better), battery health, charge %, cold crank amps and whether to replace or charge. I recently had a 5 month old battery fail. It would charge up to 13.5v but still wouldn't turn the motor over! The tester said 13v but the ohms read 20 something, 20 cca, replace. It's always the first check I make on any bike or car.
Cheers
This thread has certainly been educational for me. I thought that if it would take a charge to 13+ volts, it was good regardless.
G'day Windseeker.
A mate that has been riding for 50 years thought the same. He couldn't start his modern Trihard. Said the battery was showing 13.5v on his multi meter. I put my tester on and it said 13v, 25 ohm, cca 20, health ZERO.
Never stop learning.
Cheers
I had a battery that seemed charged, BUT would not engage the flywheel in the primary—it would spin the sol. but not push out the plunger. I load tested it. Battery was faulty. When I replaced the battery, some intermittent "missing” also cleared up.
