Thanks guys. I follow the K.I.S.S method. Why complicate things, right?

Most garages will never change that fluid, just check it. Probably full of milk.
In order to remove the top cover from the transmission on a 5 speed softail, the oil tank must be removed...

Easiest way to get the oil out is use a suction device through the filler opening.

Sucking out thru fill opening will leave 6-8 oz, maybe more.

Years back I used a topsider oil change setup to suck the lube out of the 5 speed on my `89 softail (the plug was rounded out and I didn`t want any summer down time), it sucked out most of the lube, enough that it was not a concern.

I tried that but couldn't get a whole lot out. I think the hose was too big and I couldn't get it down in deep enough. I'll try it with a smaller hose.

A mityvac kit is available with a hard thin tube.
It will take 3 to 5 minutes to drain.

Isn't there a drain plug on the bottom? Use this. My '95 and '96 EVO's had plugs.
