Noise from primary

Default Noise from primary

Any idea’s what would cause the noise and the damage to outer primary cover (see attached)
bearings look ok/nothing visible.
could not move the shaft after pulling clutch hub.
anyone?

Year and model of your motorcycle would be useful.

Do not see any damage to the primary.

Is the transmission in neutral?

Look at the 1/4 moon cut where you see the orange peaking out.

I’ll check it when I take it back apart.

i just inspected & didn’t see anything
obviously wrong except the cut in primary.

put most of it back together as it was for now.
Prob strip back down over the weekend.

thanks for the suggestion/make sure it’s in neutral!

Make sure that you get the key firmly seated in the keyway on the mainshaft or you will split the flange in the clutch hub.

That dip in the circle is normal but he may be seeing rubbing that we can't see.

It`s hard to get an idea of what is pictured when the camera is one inch away.

Model and year?

Is that a copper washer?

If the bike is an 1988 or earlier, that copper washer is the thrust washer for the pinion gear.
