Make sure that you get the key firmly seated in the keyway on the mainshaft or you will split the flange in the clutch hub.
The Hub Flange is Split by not positioning the Key Properly, or "new" keys that are proud, or Improper Key, or, Simply Over torquing the Hub nut!! Fragile things indeed if that is a L'84 to??? Sometime around '92, Maybe clutch.

I look all around the area indicated for rubbing by Clutch Components, and certainly all The way around for Chain Rub from running too Loose. Which certainly Is Noisy!!

If the key rolls up as the hub is installed on the mainshaft, the hub flange will split at the keyway and it instantly becomes junk. I put a little Locktite on the key when I install it in the keyway and let it set up for a few hours before installing the hub. I'm not relying on dumb luck that way...
If the hub wasn’t seated all the way and stuck forward it may have cut into the half moon area.. also maybe a previous owner tried the wrong clutch hub or a aftermarket variable pressure plate and it didn’t clear grinding that away.
‘’To do that much damage I’d also change the tranny main seal and barring in inner primary.
