I tried everything that was suggested on this and other forums...and couldn't get it 100% fixed. I got it to the point where I could get it into neutral while running occasionally...and usually if I wasn't thinking about it. I am an expert at adjusting clutches now...

This winter I installed the Baker shift drum. I have only been able to ride it a couple times so far this year but...WOW. So much better!. Shifting doesn't feel mushy and neutral is easy to find.

What shift drum is that, is it the N1?

Problem solved!
I can find neutral, whether I'm in 2nd gear or 1st gear, just by changing the length of the levers.
I shortened the lever A, with about half inch, and I lengthened the lever B, with about 1 inch. Easy to find neutral now!

Did you replace the levers to adjust the length? They don't appear to be adjustable.

Looks like he cut the tranny one and extended it.

I've always believed the connecting rod should be close to level with the frame for the most consistent control. Maybe not.

So basically you lengthened it about a half inch.

Actually he could have lengthened the back one 1 1/2 inches and not done anything with the front..

The levers are not adjustable.
The complete front controls were hand made by me (except the footpeg itself). So I just made another lever A, about half an inch shorter than the previous one.
For the back lever (at the gear box), I cut it in two and I welded a 1 inch long metal strip in between (it is visible in the picture). I need to polish it and maybe black paint it.

Of course, to avoid making a new front lever (a shorter one), I could modify only the rear one, by making a much longer rear lever (1,5 inch, or even 2 inch longer). But I didn't like how it looks, it was too long.

Ok thanks. Very interesting that this Madd your shifting so much better. Thanks for sharing the info.
