92 heritage softail on Aruba
My name is Paul and I live on the beautiful Caribbean island of Aruba.
I've just purchased a 92 heritage softail in Florida that is now in a container coming my way.
I bought the bike sight unseen, without any history (but a clean title) and for a low price so I expect that there is quite a lot of maintenance or other repairs that have to be done.
I've already noticed quite a lot of missing Chrome, a dent in the tank, missing left handle bar switch and probably a lot more hidden treasures.
I at least want to make sure that I give it mechanically what it needs. Although I have had motorcycles my whole adult life and I am mechanically inclined, this is my first Harley. Hence my questions.
From what I've read 1992 is a bit of a transition year for head breathers and change in oil pump design. Since I don't have the bike here yet I can't actually check what iteration I have.
I am going to do a full 20000 mile service and than some:
- plugs
- engine oil and filter (are filters the same for all EVO years?)
- transmission oil
- primary oil
- brake fluid
- adjust pushrods (what O-rings or gaskets do I need)
- adjust clutch
- adjust primary chain
- change fork oil.
Of course I'll be checking the full bike over Besides the above list.
Anything more that I should really do/check
Any recommendations where to get maintenance parts needed? (Preferably via Amazon as delivery to Aruba with other outlets might prove difficult)
Also on my wishlist is different handle bars (I want to go to a beach bar instead of the very high Touring ape's now on it.)
A solo seat instead of the double.
Remove the Sissy bar, bags and headlight eyebrow.
Will be posting progress on here when I get the bike.
Cheers,
Paul
