Just bought a 95 Heritage. I've got manuals on order but I would like to get started right away with oil changes. What are the oil capacities? Is the engine and transmission oil checked with the bike straight up or on the jiffy stand? Thanks for your help.

In my 95 heritage I put about 2.5 quarts in the motor, 36 oz in the primary, and I think it's 24 oz in the transmission.
When I change fluids I tend to just pour it in till each one is at its own fill level.
All fluids checked with the bike straight up.
11.5 ounces of oil in each front fork. Don't fill the primary by quantity, fill the primary until the oil level covers the bottom of the clutch spring disc by 1/4" when the bike is standing upright. Mine takes about 40 oz. to do this.
Transmission oil is checked with the motorcycle upright. 24 oz. should bring the level to the middle of the dipstick.

yep...2.5 quarts standing straight up..what else ya wanna know? How far can ya go on it? We got a guy in the Fl Crew group who has over 288k on his heritage and rides it everyday with no worries of breaking down...if you ride it you will have less troubles than storing it for years. I just turned over 40k on mine this weekend..no worries...excellent bike!
I just bought mine after 4th of July and have put about 1300 and the bike is running stronger than when I bought it. My advice is to use Mobil 1 Synthetic 20w-50.
Bought mine new in 95 and was stolen in 99. Probably my favorite bike, dont sell it, it will serve you far better than the new epa crapp their selling.
Just traveled 1800 miles camping at Lolo, Glacier, over logan's pass, down to yellowstone, then Teton, over the teton pass, back into Boise....Was the ride of my life so far.....hit 50k in Montana near Choteau.

Thanks for all the replies, however, I bought this bike with the intention of selling it since I already own four bikes. There's no denying the older Evos last forever.
