Is this something that is fairly simple to do?? And the SE oil.... is this something I would get at a Harley dealership, or is it just an off-the-shelf type oil? (sorry.. really new to this)
SE is Screaming Eagle, and yes you can get it at the dealer. There are other aftermarket types you can use, but I don't know the weight of the SE heavy off the top of my head. Changing is fairly simple, get a shop manual to walk you trough it, it will easily pay for itself they a like $45 through Zanottis HD.
maybe you want to try progressive springs
i have them in my 94 fxds with se oil, it's nice and firm.
Listen to this guy. He knows whereof he speaks.
I put on Progressive fork springs 3 yrs ago. They will solve your front end problems. They cost less than $100 back then.
Get 2 1" OD nuts, get 4 1" OD washers or whatever size will fit inside your fork tube top), put 2 washers on either side of the nut,and superglue one washer to the nut. Leave the other one loose to aid installation. Put thesandwich on top of your fork spring and re-install your fork cap. Cheapest fix for soft forks.
