Default Carb Leaking

I have a slight gas leak from the carb, although I can't tell exactly where. If I shut the bike off, and then shut the gas off, I smell gas in the garage (and in the house) and touching the bottom of the carb my fingers come way with gas on them. If I shut the gas off and then run the bike until it dies, there doesn't seem to be any leak, so I'm ruling out the petcock.

This is a CV carb. Where are the most likely places for this carb to be leaking? How do I determine which it is?

Turn off the petcock when not riding it. Make sure your float level is set right and the float valve is not sticking. You may have to replace the gasket on the float bowl. Check the fuel line for cracks, if it's old, it wouldn't be a bad idea to replace. Rubber and gas don't get along too well.

Sounds like it could be the float bowl gasket if it's only weeping gas from the bottom. You could try tightening the screws on the bottom. If this doesn't work turn the petcock off andrun the carb dry, remove the float bowl(bottom of carb)and replace the rubber gasket. They are cheap and any shop or dealer should have one in stock.Sometimes you can remove, clean, and reinstall the old one to get you by until you can replace it.

There should be a small rubber hose on the overflow drain in the bottom of carb. If it's not there, the needle valvecould be leaking , letting the bowl overflow. Or the elbow for the fuel inlet line will leak, or as said in the other post, could be bowl gasket. Most fluid leaks you follow from lowest point to highest to find origin.

If your gas tank vacuum line is blocked, the carb will overflow.

Check the plastic fuel inlet fitting for cracks. Mine did the same thing and that's what it was. Replaced it with the brass fitting and no more problems....
