Other than subbing a known good unit, is there any way to test a SE ignition module? I rode 2 blocks today, and the bike started supttering like crazy, but would idle. Stop 5 minutes, ran fine, then the same thing. I just tightened up my battery connections as the first route of simple trooubleshooting, but have a feeling that the module is taking a crap. Same problem after tightening the connections. I notice the headlight dims/goes out when it starts to spit and sputter, too.
Any experience would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,

PS-I have a spare HI-4 and good 3 ohm Dyna coil laying around-would installing those be easier than trying to hunt down a new SE module on Ebay?
Sounds like it could be the timing pickup plate. I had a similar issue and replaced the module as well asthe plate. The plate tested bad but due to the age of the module I decided to replace it as well. Testing the timing sensor plate would be a good start before tackling other options.
Have used both Accel and SE modules and have had both go south on me. Usually they just quit, so I doubt that's ur problem. Sounds more like ur losing battery power, if ur losing lites and power. I'd check out the battery and charging system 1st. Now I always travel with my stock module in the bag for back-up. Keep us posted.
It was a brand new (tested goodon all counts)battery and charging system. Tuned out to be the timer, and I bought a module from Ebay just to be on the safe/semi reliable side.
Take the connecting wires off the coil and squeeze them together with some pliers, maybe there is a loose one and your spark is arcing. Had that happen to me before, it would just stop running like an elec prob half the time and would sputter like fuel the other half. Just a loose clip on the coil....
Remember about elec. its a loose or shorting wire 90% of the time and a major componenet the rest of the time.
