Ok, I feel pretty incompetent right now. I am redoing a 1987 FXRS-SP and I am having a bit of a problem with the swingarm. I can't get the pivot bolt out. The "nuts" on both sides will turn and the one on the left has come out about 3/4" but no more. Is there a secret here? I ordered the shop manual but haven't received it yet. This looked pretty simple.
It goes through the transmission. You MAY be able to hold it in place enough to stop it from spinning out if you place a jack under the tranny case and apply A LITTLE BIT OF PRESSURE....JUST A BIT.......
There is a product named "Kroil" and its called "The oil that creeps"

Use a jam nut on one side hold the bottom nut and turn the nut on the other side, it should come off. If it doesn't your going to have to spot weld the nut on one side.
