I ride a shovel, but my bud rides a 1985 FLHTC, so I'm trying to help him find a couple things.
1)Chrome headlight housing. The original was black. He repalced it with a chromed plated plastic part which has gone crappy. We're looking for a chrome plated metal one but no luck. Any ideas where to get that?
2)He would like to put a radio in his fairing. Anyone know of any good kits or have any good homebrew ideas?
I know you guys will be as helpful as the good folks in the shovel forum have been.
I think the new thing is to buy an ipod and keep it in a little pouch or mount it. Run it through a set of mounted amplified speakers. You can take the ipodwith you and it won't get rained on.
eBay has the occasional seller with an aftermarket radio kit that should work for that bike. The problem is that the 85 has the open faring like the earlier bikes, unlike my 86 which has an enclosed faring that a radio will drop into. So he needs the whole enclosure with speaker, housing, etc. If they sell on eBay, I'm sure that J&P and others probably carry them too.
I'll have to bring him up-to-date on electronics, but the IPod idea sounds really cool.
Checked J&P and Custom Chrome for the housing. They have them for 60-84 and 86 on up, but not this particular year model. Is there some way to adapt one of the others without butchering things up too bad?
