Just in case anyone is contemplating it, here's my $.02. Do it! I have an 85 FXWG that I hadrode over 100,000 hard miles. I went with HD's engine rebuild program and another 26,000 miles laterwith no regrets. I would have prefered to have removed and reinstalled the engine myself but dealer said in order to keep the warranty they have to do the install. Still worth it.

I also had the MC rebuild my engine when I was near 100k. It probably did not need it at the time because the engine was doing fine but the case was leaking pretty bad around the oilseal and motoroil kept flooding into the primary. So HD rebuilt it with new cases and had the original VIN stamped into the new case. I now have 50k on the rebuild and it is still going strong. I had the cam pulled before I sent it in because they do take off all upgrades even if they are Harley parts such as screaming eagle, and replace with factory spec parts for the engine. Overall I am very happy with it. I had it done maybe 7 years ago, can't remember exactly.
Kendall Johnson has the same program, except you take out the engine and ship it to him. Costs where the same (when I check it out) for the rebuild, except the MC will give you a motor back built to stock specs and Kendall will give you a motor back that has 80 hp at the rear wheel. Just my $.02.

I just emailed his shop about that the other month. Sounded like a good deal.. Did you do it or know someone that did?
What was the total cost? Did you lose all the performance parts you had in the motor?
I cost around $2500. Considering what you end up with I figured it was much better than paying close to the same fora completeengine rebuild from HD or aftermarket. And yes you have to take out your performance parts. Easy to do if you work on your own. Just ebay a stock part and put it in!
I called Kendall and talked to him. He was leaving for a big rally and wouldn't be able to get ot it until they got back. I had some money dropped into my lap and decieded to buy a 100" engine instead.

My engine is a Kendall Johnson spec'd 80" Evo and it is unbelievable. Mine is a torque monster for 80" and will pull the front end up in 3rd gear. The Tq is 94,the Hp is 86 and it's bulletproof. He does not like to use parts he hasn't tested thouroughly. You will not be disappointed with a KJC engine.
