Default Bonehead Award

I get the Bonehead of the Year Award!!! I was putting the fuel filter on my 98 LR back in the tank after cleaning it and it was real hard to push up in there, but it finally went, all the way inside the tank. Naturally I can't find it, feel it, much less begin to have a clue as to how to get it out or even know as to what damage leaving it in there will do. Does anybody have any suggestions as to what I should do? This bonehead would certainly be very grateful for any help or tips.

take the tank off , take off fuel cap, turn upside down and shake should do the trick I would think.

I had thought of doing that but didn't want to change the cross-over line or disturb the tach/speedo setup to get the tank off. I ended up just spending $5 on the new filter, left the old one in, and put it all back together. It runs alot better and there hasn't been any indication that leaving the old one in is causing any problems. Thanks for your response anyway.

You should not have any problems at all.I personally have been using the Fitch fuel catalysts inside my gas tanks now for years.

I didn't think there would be any problems either Dog155. I don't see any way for the old filter to block off any of the gas flow to the new filter, but you can bet I will be more careful the next time I change it, lol.

Just wondering, I've seen those things, do they do much for you. Don't know any 1 who's tried them and thought maybe they were just a gimmick.

Well Redd, the one I took out was caked with crap and my bike ran funny right before you put it on reserve. The new one I put in after my bonehead move made my bike run better and took care of that funny stuff right before reserve. It was well worth the $5.19 I paid for it. The one I pushed into the tank was my factory original so it was 10 years old with 28,000 mile on it and I found they are very easy to change after I screwed up the first one figuring out how it came out. They definately are no gimmick and they do work, so if you haven't changed yours, I would, and you will be amazed how good it will run.

Sorry bout that. I still recommend changing the filter if it hasn't been done. Made a world of difference to mine.
