My bike is haunted! I have had this problem with it just dying no spuddering just dies. so far I have put a new coil and plug wires, heated up the crane ignition module(it still ran),drained the tank and cleaned the petcock filter and chanced all the breakers under the seat. the bike ran fine after all this. even took a 1400 mile round trip to DC for rolling thunder ( ride down sucked rain and hail) it ran awesome not a hiccup or fart! take it out today and it dies wait a few and it starts right up. when it dies I have full electrical power. I am thinking fuel problem? it has a new Mikuni on it.One guy said it couldn't be fuel because it doesn't sputter but I have took ok with the petcock off and it just dies like it is now. Putting it on reserve doesn't help. I am wondering if the carb is out of wack? but it does run great when it is running. I have wiggled wires and nothing it still runs. I am at a loss. and even thinking of selling my beloved scooter! sorry this is so long. and help, ideas or suggestions?

Next time it does it,flip the kill switch a couple times. They get corroded and / or the wires can get pinched if the right side has been apart for anything. If it hasn't been, take it apart and clean the switch contacts.
I posted a reply to a similar prob some months ago. Guys ride had been at the dealer for 7+ weeks. He read my reply an hour after they finally figured out what was wrong.
PS I just re-read and saw it was a Crane ign. I've read several posts where people have had problems with them and usually it was caused by over-voltage at some time.... just thought I'd best share that.........
I dont know much, but have had experience with that problem on several different (brands of) bikes.
thanks t150, I have wigggled the wires coming from there and it didn't kill the bike. when the kill switch is off thestarter doesn't turn over. when it dies on me the starter will crank away when I try to start it. this problem is pissing me offf as you can tell!

I have noticed several people with those Crane ignitions having issues. I don't know if it is just that a lot of people have the Crane units and a normal number of them go bad or if there is some type of problem with them.
Anyway, with your case, you need to remember that there are only 3 things a gas motor needs to run: Gas, spark and timing. You are missing one of these when it acts up. So, next time it won't start or dies, relax and methodically go through it and see which one you are missing. Put your #2 Phillips screwdriver in the spark plug wire, hold the shaft by the plastic handle near the motor, crank it. Got spark? If so, then spray some starter fluid down the carb. Does it run? If not, you need to check the timing, but I'm gonna bet it's in the ignition system.
I had an intermittant problem like you describe, but not quite as bad (every once in a while, it would cut out on me for a few seconds then take off again) for years. Finally, it died completely on me about 50-60 miles from home on the other side of Houston, at the time. It turned out to be the wire from the ignition pickup was broken under the cone.
Had the identical problem.
First, look at the wiringschematics in your service manual. make sure and i mean positive you have the current flowing thru your master breaker correctly. o.k.
when itscrews up again, have a new outer primary gasket ready, as you will need to take it off. Now, LOOK really,Really close at the
pigtail wires coming off the coil windings.SEE if you can FEEL with your pinky the BACK SIDE of said wires.
They, after 10 years, have been rubbing against the outer shell of the inner primary and are going short to ground intermittently,
at the worst possible times. let the bike sit. Master relay resets. bike starts, right?
replace the coil winding and rotor cup. you'll be glad you did. your bike will too.
