Default blown head gasket.

3 times in the last 1000 miles. Had the shop change out the head gasket a while back and now it keeps blowing. It is in the same spot every time. Checked the head and it is tru, checked the cylinder and it is tru, replaced the studs with new ones and it just blew again. Rear cylinder at the exhaust port. Any ideas?

Are the threads the studs screw into OK? Road a few weeks ago with someone who said his EVO was blowing head gaskets and he had to install a hela coil due to bad threads. Just a thought.

I just posted the same question in the engine forum. Mine has blown in the same spot in the same cyl. twice. Right now it will seal after warmup, but I'm sure it will get worse.

What type gasket are you useing. I am useing screaming eagle metal multi layered type, 10.1 compression stock studs and no problems over 20,000 miles since top end rebuild.

I'd also look at the area on the head where the head nut thingie goes into.&nbsp\\; If there is a burr or something there, you might be getting an inaccurate reading when you torque the head down on that one.&nbsp\\; You might also try giving that right rear nut thingie a little extra torque if that's where it's blowing, but I'd prefer to do it by the book.&nbsp\\;
&nbsp\\;
Are you using the low torque, 1/4 turn method (factory shop manual) or are you using the torque to a reading method (aftermarket instructions)?&nbsp\\; You might try which ever one your not using.&nbsp\\; I'd also get that head and jug triple checked for flatness.

Well, talked to the wrench today. He says one of the bolts has pulled out of the engine case. The last time it pulled a couple of threads so he locktited it. It evidently did not hold, RATS!!!!!!!!!

Exactly what I had mentioned.
Install a hela coil and repair those damaged threads.
Problem solved.

I would also recommend going to a mechanic who isn't a total hack!&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; Loctite on pulled crankcase-cylinder stud threads is ridiculous.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; No mechanic who is worth a sh*t would do that.
&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;
Good luck and ride safe,

Damn!&nbsp\\; I wish they'd get this site fixed!&nbsp\\; They must have that mechanic that put loctite on those pulled threads working on it!
