1992 softail fat boy popping
bike runs fine checked plugs they did not look bad but somewhat on the lean side bike does not pop but like every 15 to 20 minutes on highway and around town other than that bike is perfect gonna change plugs back to champion but what else could be my problem? any help would be greatly appreciated

possible causes -
slight intake leak
tiny pinhole in carb diaphram
idle mixture screw missing the o-ring
FUEL CAP NOT VENTING
(remember) they HAVE to vent into the atmosphere as well as allow air inside the tank

Sounds like your timing is off just a little,or it could also be an intake manifold leak. Crank bike, spray a little wd-40 where manifold goes in to cylinders(both sides). If the motor revs up you need to replace o-rings there.

What carb you running? Popping out the exhaust would mean it is sucking air in somewhere. Fire it up cold and give the intake and carb area a shot with wd40 and see if idle changes. If it does means a leak. Any how it is sucking air in somewhere. Kent

i have a 92 heritage i had the same prob got to lookin around .. it was the manifold gasket with a hole in it .. take some carb cleaner spray around the manifold with the bike running if it shuts off thats your problem
