Default High Oil Level = Burns Smoke?

The level is 1/2 inch below the rubber seal on the dipstick and it will burn a little white smoke out of the front cylinder's exhaust. The manual says the bottom of the rubber seal on the dipstick is the max level, the line on the dipstick is the lowest level. When the level is at the line on the dipstick, it burns no smoke. How can this be? Isn't it sucked from the bottom? I can see if the oil level was too high but not 1/2" below the max level. What is the difference if the oil level is higher or lower as indicated above?

I just topped it off, about 1/2" from the top of the rubber seal and now I guess I got to figure a way to suck about a 1/2 quart out somehow.

Can someone explain this to me and how am I gonna suck some of it out.

Thanks

A syringe works OK if you can get hold of one. Try the veternarian if you're on good terms with one of them, or just pull the drain plug long enough to make a mess, that would probably be enough removed.

The entire system breathes thru the oil tank - in a way. I just did a 14 hour day and tired and it'd take a while to totally explain the system, but botton line: if it's over full of oil, it builds up a slight pressure in the entire vapor area of the oiling system and Evos DO NOT LIKE THAT. It'll cause all kinds of freaky problems with puking out the breather (whether through the heads or the vent hose, depending on what year you have) being the most common. Next most common is excessive oil usage....... remember - the oil level in the tank WILL RISE a bit as the oil/engine temperature rises.

Moral is, better a little low of oil than overfilled.

Yep! learned that one the hard way too. The oil ends up in the top of the head and there is a one way valve so the oil has to go somewhere// in the intake or out the breather however it is set up. Sprayed oil all over my favorite f@*&in pants. You can also get a one man brake bleader to suck oil from the tank, works for me. Good luck

About a year ago I got a PELA Pro 14 oil extractor, it is very slow but does make it nicer not having to worry about removing stuff and dealing with the mess around the wiring near the drain plug on the '90 ultra every time I change oil. I also use in for the transmission and primary, just makes it easier than messing around with the hard to get at drain plugs and allows me to adjust oil levels if I get too much in by accident.

I forgot to mention I have a quick disconnect hose assembly to drain the oil so draining it 1/2 quart took all of 3 minutes. I don't know why I didn't mention it.

So I guess I"ll keep it on the low side instead blowing smoke.

Thanks for all the info.
