Hi! I am interested in putting a 140 rear tire on my 1990 FXR, and would like to see if anyone has any experience with this. I have lowered this bike using shorter adjustable shocks. Thank you for any help! Jerry
I've had several Dunlop 491 MU(140)90-16s on my '92 FXRS, but a Dunlop 404 140 rubbed on a fender bolt. So, some will fit and some won't. You will need to trim your belt guard where the tire rubs it, in any case. Also, my shocks are only a half-inch shorter than stock.
I'll be doing this swap shortly, waiting on a pulley to get back from powedercoat. I have an Avon 140 mounted on a spare HD 9 spoke mag wheel. Measurements indicate that it is not that much wider (3/8"), than the current Metzeler 130. I have 11 1/2" Progressives on the rear, so we'll have to see how much that comes into play. Looks like it will fit fine with no clearance issues if moved a little further back in the adjustor.

Thank you very much for the help! I was hoping to get a Dunlop D402 MU85B16 so that it matches the front. I think I will give it a shot. Thanks again!

Thank you! I have the same shocks. If you have time; please let me know how your swap works. I appreciate all the help! Take care and thanks again!
You can re-space out your wheel to move it over to the drive side. space out your pulley by going with a new 1" C/f off of a 08 dresser (*137 tooth) than get a Softail 170 T pulley (example 2006), remove the inner steel guide, than cut down the aluminum pulley 1/8". No problem. Make a spacer to clear your tire but remember a 160 mm is the biggest you can put on a 3 1/2" wide rim. The wider the tire the heavier it gets. The wider the tire the more friction you get. There is no way most modified HD motors will ever use the traction a 140 mm tire. wider = slower
