Default fxr shift lever

ok here goes. i've got forwards on my 91 FXR and i don't like them. now to put the original lever back on i've gotta remove the inner primary.
now being a lazy sort i got to thinking if i used the two part lever from the earlier FLT's i could save myself a lotta hassle ( here's hopin' ). i know the slined ends are the same but can anyone tell me would it work?.
the H-D part numbers are:- 33709-82 and 33718-82
it looks good on paper but knowing my luck it'll go t*ts up!! s.n.a.f.u

Not sure what you mean. The FLT's shifter shafts all go through the primary, too, right?

hello,
ok then the earlier shifter on FLT's was a two part affair. a shaft that went though the primaries and splined both ends and an arm that located onto the shafts spine located in behind the inner primary. everything else then connected up as usual. being a two parter the shaft could be pushed through from the front and once located was retained by the arm tightened by a bolt onto its spline.
it just seems too good to be true for an idle cuss like me - i like riding not messin' round in the garage. no inner primary removal is heaven sent.
you'll see by my first foray that the parts are there and genuine harley so its a real possability but will they fit my FXR?

cornishbob hello,

The easy part is getting the shift levers the hard part will be replacing the splined shaft to a longer one. You see, the FXR's have a short splined shaft and the FXRT's and FXRP's used a 1 piece lever with their floor boards.
