Default whirring sound

I recently moved to Phoenix and the heat is taking it's toll on my 14 year old FatBoy (owned since new). After sitting out all day at work, and riding home over hot blacktop in 100+ degree heat, it develops a whirring sound that seems to be related to the actual speed of the bike (rather than the engine). I've replaced the front wheel bearing and lubed the speedo cable. Basically, when it's hot, if I pull in the clutch and let the engine go to idle, I hear this whirring as I coast - seemingly from the front half of the bike. It also is present when coasting with the clutch engaged and zero throttle. Interestingly, the sound disappears upon application of throttle.

?????????????

I get that from my belt. Someone mentioned rubbing a little candle wax on the sides of the belt. I have yet to do it, but it sounds like a good idea.

A little bar of soap gives a similar result...

Belt noise (and/or) vibration does change with temps and they get tighter with higher temps - just the opposite of what a chain does.

Takes some tinkering to find the right "cold adjusted" free play that works when up to temp.

Is the belt noise explanation consistent with my experience of noise when coasting, no noise under load?
