What is the widest tire you can put in a stock '99 Fat Boy without making any other mod than replacing the wheel/tire???
When I purchased my bike back in '98 there was a thing called the "wide tire kit" offered by HD. I don't find it in the catalog these days...
Now, I'm on the market for a new set of wheels and for the rear, METZELER TIRES 140/70HB/18 OR 150/70VB/18 were suggested. Can you fit a 140 or 150 in the stock rear fender without the need of any additional mods???
You should be able to fit a 140/90/16 with no mods. I think the wide tire kit from Harley allows a 150 tire. I cut my stock struts and added the Ness struts. I also went with a 9 inch taildragger rear fender.I currently have a 160/60/18 0n a 4.25 rim. I have a 180/55/18 and may put it on later.
If I recall correctly our bikes came with a 130 stock? Right???
I've serious concerns on this 150 suggestion from the wheel manufacturer, he told me that since I was going from a wheel 16" to an 18" I would be able to fit a 150 without mods... got me thinking now... there is so little info on these earlier models on the web...
Do you remember what did you had to change or what did the "wide tire kit" from Harley included???
I had a 140 on the stock rim with the stock belt. I believe the wide tire kit comes with a 11/8" narrow belt. I went with a rear chain drive that will allow the use of a wider tire. The only thing I don't like about the chain is the oil slinging on the rim and fender. The plus about the chain is that I put a 46t pulley and the gear ratio makes it perform like a 6 speed. I may go with the narrow belt kit later though to keep it cleaner.

Thank you pistole, there is no friggin' place in which I could find how wide the stock tires (dunlop) is finally after 45min I bumped into a width of 5.2 inches which makes sense since it is 130mm... So I could probably fit a 140 then, without mods and for a 150 would need the wide tire kit which I totally ignore what it consists in...
