Ozzman,
If you are hoing to build your own pipes or possibly modify your engine/bike. Then you should buy these two books, they are probably the greatest books ever written on the subject of modifying the HD V-Twin engine.

I just got my first oil report on the Ultima 113 with 5000 miles on it.

With all the talk of bad lifters and other problems in the the Ultima engines,
do you think I should be concerned the aluminum & iron levels are higher than normal ?

ELEMENTS IN PARTS PER MILLION
Aluminum was 16 Universal Average is 6
Iron was 35 Universal Average is 17

HD 20-50 , 2500 miles on oil (changed to Mobil 1 V-Twin)

******** begin quote on oil report
Nothing too unusual showed up here. Universal averages show typical wear levels for this type of
engine after about 2,300 miles on the oil. This oil was in use a little longer than that, and aluminum and iron
read higher than average. This is probably from lingering wear-in, since the engine is still relatively new.
All other metals have settled down and are reading normally. The viscosity was in spec for this oil type
and the main oil additive levels were fine, showing no heat or moisture damage.
No excess fuel or coolant found.

I have high hopes but am still nervous about my 120". After about 4,000 miles I ate a front lifter and was stuck in Bumfu(k, Idaho. Ultima took care of the rebuild but I had to handle the removal and reinstall - I guess that's normal. I've got about 8,000 miles on it since and although the engine is noisy, it kicks butt for speed. Had it dyno-tuned and was a little disappointed with only 105hp and 128tq. Barnett Scorpion clutch was a vital necessity and matched up with a Baker 6 over-drive it seems okay now. I hope.

Fingers crossed on another semi long distance ride coming up.

I have a 1995 EVO Ultra Classic and am thinking about dropping in a 120" (or 124") Ultima this winter.

Does the cruise control still operate on the Ultra Classic with an Ultima motor ?

I'm thinking of leaving the tranny standard, but, will upgrade the clutch with a Barnett extra plate kit.

OR

Should I go for the open primary and 6 speed tranny in the Ultra all in one deal ?

Cheers

Blueflame1,
I ain't a fan of open primaries or belt drives. Of course, it is none of my business what you run but I would like to suggest either a Barnett Scorpion or Rivera Pro clutch for your bike if you go with the big engine. They are quite pricey, but they will do the job, I would think, WAY better than just adding a plate.
I hope it all works out well for you, whatever you decide.
Oh yeah, Baker has a hotrod clutch too but I don't know anything about 'em. Baker does make good stuff, I have one of their 6 into 4 trannys.

Blueflame,
The cruise will work on the Miluni, but you have to buy an aftermarket arm to attach the cruise cable to. Either the 120 or 124 will work fine, the 124 was made for baggers so it should be a little torque enhanced over the 120. We have a 120 in ours and it works fine. You will have to shim the rear of the tank up about 3/4" to clear the carb. You might get away with the stock clutch and the extra plate kit, but I doubt it. We have the Ultima Six speed with a 31 tooth tranny sprocket and find that it works well. I would stay away from the open primary on a bagger as there is no real gain from it. If you have any questions please feel free to contact us as ours is a '95 as well. Hope this helps.

I had 2 of the Rivera Pro clutches (one dry and one wet) on a 127 but I found they couldn't quite cut it even with the heavier springs so Installed an S&S clutch, this is the best clutch I have ever used, they even have them on sale right now. Also the Baker DD6 didn't stand up.

I saw an earlier mention to the TDC engines getting tested. I can say this for a fact I got serial number 0003 off the line and have put over 48000 miles on it with not a single problem. And these are all hard miles i ride the heck out of my 95 fatboy. I dynoed it out of the box with no head work, cam, or carb adjustments. 110 lb ft of torque at 2600 rpm building to 135 lb ft of torque at 3600 rpm and 109 hp at 4800 rpm. I also dynoed a Ness bike with an S&S 124 in it at needless to say it dosen't compare. The TDC (Revtech) has the torque to get you rolling and the power to maintian the speed. The factory speedo says "Harley Davidson Motor Co" on the bottom after the 120 mph tick. I have had the needle to the "n" is Davidson and maintained it there on an open road with a slight uphill grade. She had more to go but I couldn't handle the buffeting. Also running a TDC 6 speed and a bandit clutch with all the heavy springs and shims in it. toasted 4 other "different" clutches out of it already. Rear tires are also an issue. Ride it like you stole it I do....

Got to give props where they are due. I had some problems with my 120" Ultima, but after a rebuild and about 8,000 miles, I just got back from a 3,700 mile ride in up to 11,000 ft elevation and in 108° temps and didn't have a spec of trouble with my motor. Maybe I'm a slow learner, or tough to convince, but as of now, I like my Ultima.

Miacycles: I have my 120" blowing out of Vance & Hines Big Radius pipes, might that be why my hp is in the 108 range?

Thanks-

AK
