Default rechrome?

Hey all:
Im looking to spiff up the old flhtc. I bought this 1991 HD with a fair amount of decent chrome on it. The chrome is showing some age and needs some attention. I was wondering if anybody had removed their older chrome and sent it in for a "rechrome"? I know a guy in Nashville who does chrome for musical instruments. Anybody ever do this or know a guy who did this?

Chrome shops re-chrome stuff all the time. No big deal to them. Really thin metal parts are the most sensitive. The old chrome is removed by acid dipping as I recall, then the part has to be re-polished and then it is re-plated so you lose a small amount of dimension as a rule.

What is the cost difference between buying a replacement versus re-chrome? If the parts are thin replacement may be the way to go.

I've been replacing the chrome pieces on my 96 Ultra as I come across the parts. These parts were take off's and purchased most of them at 1/3 to 1/2 the cost of new, my latest purchases was a passing lamp bar $60 and today I bought a brand new header pipe with heat shields for $75 that was a dealer take off some bike and was probably stored in the corner somewhere.

You are aware that there is a consignment shop in Mt Juliet called HDP Cycles that has a pretty good assortment of chrome.

I have always used Browns in KY. I have many parts on my 85 FXWG that were chromed in 85/86/87 and still look like new.
