Default Chrome plastic
This week I purchased a chrome HD part for my the bike. Went home, opened the package and found the part was chromed plastic.

Something about this just doest set well with me. $44.00 for chrome plastic?

Yup, part of the trend these days. Companies will choke it up to light weight, i.e. fuel economy, etc., and there are some shapes that can be cast from a mold that cannot be easily shaped from metal, but don't let them fool you... it is all about the bottom dollar. They can cast the part from plastic and then "chrome" plate the part a lot cheaper than they can produce them in metal. Incidentally, if it is chrome plated plastic, it is likely made in Louisville, Ky. There is a company that makes these parts for almost all motor vehicle companies.

What was the part?

I haven't run into any HD parts that were chrome plastic yet.

Only part I know of is a chrome lower dash panel. http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/g...bmLocale=en_US

Actually some fender trim parts are plastic too.

the new aux brake light that mounts on the turn signal bar for the rg customs and street glides are plastic.
