Put a new CV on my '97 FLSTC without doing an EGA or dyno and it ran hot esp. in the summer here. Dynoed and had a 16.7 AFR! even though I didn't notice a performance issue. Set up for 13.5 AFR on a dyna and noticed a difference on my "little buddies". 400 degrees probably from the pipes since you'd know if the heads were running that hot! Coolers just doing it's job but unless you're running stop & go on the I-10, I'd remove for the winter IMHO if it gets any colder here and it starts to run below 160-180 you noted. Oil does need to get a bit hot to flow properly and it will evap less absorbed moisture esp if you're running 20W-50 here in winter.

My twin cam runs at about 200 degrees even in cooler weather(Thats with a cooler AND running synthetic!) My bike has a TW37 cam so that might be part of it. My 96 wideglide runs regular oil with no oil cooler and yet it runs cooler than the twinkie.(I have never taken the temp-I just feel the difference......)
