Sorry,
I forgot to put this in my first post. Self-cancelling turn signals did not happen until 1989. There are after market modules that you can add that will leave the turn signals on for a period of time, otherwise you have to hold the button in to make them flash. I believe your bike is Claret Red as it looks to bright to be Rose Metalic unless the camera change it a little. Hope this helps.

I bought my 1990 bike new. I found the self-cancelling turn signals were a nuisance, as they turned off at vital times, such as just before I actually made a turn. There is a white/green wire from the speedo, which if disconnected will stop that feature. So my signals come on when I press the button and turn off when I press it next. If I press them both the lights all come on together.

I know it was well-cared-for. I have original seat, slip-ons, shifter, levers, handgrips and a bunch of stuff I cannot identify. No handlebars though.

Skullhead: Thanks for that. I appreciate it a lot.

miacycles: That is what I was hoping as I have been referring to it as a Low Glide. When I went through the box of parts, I realized that the original air cleaner cover stated Super Glide II. I tried to find definitive information, but was suprised that precious little can be found on this model. I remember hearing that it was sought after in both the "outlaw" circles and law enforcement. Oh, and to answer your question it has 26,118 miles on it as of today...

The slip ons are aftermarket. I have the originals in a box.

Thank you very much. I tend to favor older vehicles. I have a '79 Trans Am, just sold a mint condition 1987 Monte Carlo SS and I was looking for a "classic" styled Harley that was in nice shape. I technically was not ready to purchase this, but it was too good an offer to refuse. I am dying to get the bike out there and ride.

Last year was a poor year for riding in NH with all the rain, but I stll logged over 7,000 miles. The way I look at it, the 85 FXRS is just under 4 years old at that rate. Still being broken in

miacycles: I do not mind holding the button for the turn signals. The thing is that when I hold it, they stay lit (not flashing). To make them flash, I have to continuously push them over and over.

Where did you get the color code information? The paperwork refers to the color as "Candy Red" but I am not sure how accurate that is.

Replace the flasher and they should flash as long as the lights have enough resistance, do not use a "heavy duty" flasher. The color info came from the Harley Fact Book ISBN 0-7603-0226-X. Hope this helps.

Only that a pal of mine bought a new FXRS back then, which had flat bars. I don't know if it was an FXRS-SP or what the significance of the '-SP' is!

You have a great looking bike there. Has the snow gone yet?

No, the snow is still here. We started out on December 11 with a major ice storm that took power out for 4 days. Others were without power for almost 3 weeks. We have had at least 3 storms that have dropped 10" or more and countless smaller storms that left less. There are still 9 weeks left for the calendar winter, and snow may be around until mid April. That really sucks.

Man that is one sweet looking ride. I love seeing old original bikes. Takes alot to resist the temptation to modify them too much. I'll have to dig out my 85 brochure to look but I'm sure them handlebars look original. Good find !

The SP was for the drag bars with the longer front forks. I have a buddy who has owned his 1988 FXRS-SP since he bought it new. The SP version was Harleys best handling Big Twin of that time

Man, info on this bike is tough to come by. Barnes & Noble had 3 Harley books on the shelf, and two of them never even mentioned any 1985 models, the 3rd had a 1985 Sportster. Frustrating... I did find an old 1984 Cycle magazine that has an article on the 1985 FXRS-SP. Hopefully, it will be a test ride article, but regardless, I should learn something.
