I have a 91 FXR with many miles. Lately when i start it it is starting to make a grinding noise before the starter disengages. i am trying to be ahead of any troubles i may see in the future. Any ideas out there what is causing this and what canbe done to elieviate the noise?

Sounds like the gear in the primary. Maybe the return spring. Pull the outer primary off and look at it. There's also a bearing in the outer primary cover.
