So I am riding in to work this morning about 5:30. I feel a little extra "cold" on my left leg. Then I felt a lot of extra "cold on my left leg. Damn fuel line broke off at the petcock doing 70 on the freeway. I mean the line went from no leak to completely broken off in a matter of a minute. Totally soaked my leg and left side of my crotch. Have you ever had to fix a scoot on the side of the road with your nuts burning? Not a good thing. Why in the hell did the MoCo use that semi-rigid clear tubing anyway. I have always used fuel rated rubber hose. At least it starts leaking a little at a time. Just had to vent. I smell like a filling station.
I've not seen the clear stuff on a factory setup. Is that new or did a DPO do that?
I replaced my fuel line with some Russells stainless braided because I had it laying around. Also pay attention to the crossover line if you have one.
You want bad? Lotus used a rubber line not unlike surgical tubing for fuel system vents. They disentigrate (go figger), and people replace them with the clear stuff you describe and never have another problem.
Hess, it's a 92'. Line looks about 17 years old. Might have something to do with Kalifornia standards. Bike was first sold in San Diego. Crossover line is rubber and fine. I had just enough line left after the break to pull it over the knurl barely (clamp is over the knurl). Hope it makes it home where I can fix it right (25 miles).
Thanks for the advice. Brake lines are braided stainless. It made it home without leaking and has some brand new Gates line. No problems (with the fuel line) to look forward to for a coupla years.
THat was most likely a piece of "Tygon" tubing. I've seen it used on drag bikes, but they get rebuilt, changed out, etc,etc A LOT so longevity isn't a problem. I have some around the garage I've used to siphon gas from time to time and I can guarantee that stuff will hold up just fine for THAT use...I ALSO guarantee it will get brittle. Someone made a bad choice.
Looks like we got us a yakoff named Gusoir 28 infesting the joint. 4 posts, none of which have anything to do with anything a normal person would care about, and full of whacked links that take you who knows where.
Mr Mod - banning and deleting time, please!.
Thanks!
