Uh, I know we ain't supposed to double post..

The seal you should have would look like a wheel seal for a normal car.... brass? Sounds like the wrong seal alltogether

Thanks a lot... all of you, even *cough* sqdealgeorge. I'm just getting tired of breaking stuff, I'm only a e4 I can't hardly afford breaking anything else; but I'm kinda thick skinned (the military does that) so no hard feelings. So the CC breather is fudged....(well and so is the seal) that's weird, when my pops was around he took it to get looked at b/c on first start-up the breather filter would dump ~1/8 cup of black blood, they fixed it to where it didn't do that anymore but it looks like in the process something else got fouled up. *sigh* I had my fingers crossed I'd have her running by tomorrow but looks like I've got a grimlin to find

I just looked at the seal on my `89 Evo (torn down for primary chain replacement)
and it is brass and is marked National made in USA. I remember i got it from the same place I got the timken bearings (not the HD dealer).

Well slap me naked and hand me to my Momma.... I never saw one.

Frankly, hope I never do. That last lead seal I put in a B-61 Mack kicked my azz. Seriously, didn't know there was such a thing. Learn something everyday... and I will NEVER claim to know it all.

I am officially lost, so it could have been the seal...or the CC breather. So, after I get a new bearing spacer and seal in there what do you suggest my next COA should be?

Marking on that seal: National Made In USA 472164

As I said, this is not a seal from HD, but from a bearing supply company, it has held the oil in for over 55,000 miles so far.

Oh, one more thing I forgot to mention, Thank you for your service to our country.

Sent you an email thru here.... who know's where that ended up.

Let's all start over and keep it SS. The seal was leaking - so was the oil leaking into the primary, or primary fluid pumping into the oil?

OK, black blood on the ground and "they" "fixed" it? Sounds like the CC breather HOSE was plugged and that's a no-no on any internal combustion engine.

Right side on the case - behind, and well beneath oil pump, there is a 1/8 pipe outlet that is a vent, originally to the air filter - most were re-routed to the ground via rubber hose. That must be open - period.

Get another seal from an HD dealer, and I know if you're TDY at any fort, there will be one close. The seal and spacer will be less than 20.00 Part #s are:

SPACER: 24002-70
SEAL: 12026B

Make sure that vent is open and install the spacer and seal. Button it up and ride!

Thanks both, I'll try that out and pop back in to let you all know what's going on. As it stands right now the vent hose is routed underneath with a domeish filter at the end (perhaps that is clogged up?). I'll run to the HD shop tomorrow and see if they have the parts. Thanks again... wish me luck

How about one more thought from this old fart HD did have some bad cases in the late 80's that were porous enough to allow oil from the engine to push into the primary ! HD for years would cast into the left case the steel timkin outer sleeve and it was because of the leaks they (HD) eliminated the steel sleeve in the case casting I believe 1992 and up The way to check the seal area for leaks is to pressurize ( say 6 pounds of air ) into the bottom end through the timing plug hole ( rubber plug type adapter ) soap the area around the eng seal and look for the bubbles Hopefully none !! I guess it's time to take my meds if I can remember were I put them !!
