I have a '97 Road King with the ****ty M-M fuel injection system. I bought a power commander III USB from FuelMoto last fall. The bike ran better at highway speeds, but had a terrible stumble off idle.
Recently, I swapped in an Andrews EV27 cam, new lifters, pushrods, rings, etc. Had the heads shaved .060" and some minor port work. It already has Bub '7' true duals, and the SE Breather.
I'm planning on buttoning everything up today, and don't want to start it up until I have a proper map in the PCIII. I called Jamie at FuelMoto, and he essentially has nothing for the old Evo bikes. The only map he had that he said was even close (far from it) was for a stock cam bike with the SE breather and V&H slip ons.
Does anyone out there have the same setup as me, with a good map in their PCIII? Any help, is as usual, greatly appreciated.
Go to the Dynojet website. Look for a map with the Stage 2. It uses the SE3 cam, which is essentially the same as your EV 27. That should get you close, but there is no substitute for a dyno tune.
Thanks for the advice. I intend to get it dyno tuned later on, but for now, I just need something to get it running. Unfortunately, the map for the Stage 2 on the DynoJet site is only for the PCII and I have a PCIII...the two aren't compatible, so I really need someone with the same setup, and apparently none of them are willing to step up. Oh well.
If so many people complain about the early EFI's, can't you convert it to a carb and avoid all the hassles. Used CV's are all over ebay and a new S&S ain't that much money. Just askin.
Save your map, open up a new map under the PC3 and cut and paste the PC2fuel settings needed over to the new PC3 map, send it to the bike and save it. Just an idea to get you going, it might work in the lower rpms and have to install the fuel moto numbers in the higher since it runs good there, either way it will be a guess. If it runs worse, you can send the other map back to it.
I use a Daytona Wego 3 and do the tuning myself but have nothing but respect for tuners after 4 years of making changes to get it close but not perfect but enjoyed learining.
I have a carb on my bike. Got it dynoed to tune it in properly and it runs much better now. I am very pleased with it. I suggest you do the same with your bike. A decent tuning shop can offer an opinion on what your problem is and probably give you a price. Ride in stumbling - ride out sorted. Priceless!
The stumble off idle is a rich condition, lean will pop out the intake, you can also reduce numbers in the 5-10% range to see if that helps, 20% is your cruise range and richness is noticeable at 50 -55 mph.
If you have black injectors, I can't point you in number settings
