Default Here is a picture .. where dose wire go ?

My bagger has a points system and i replaced them with new.
Only thing is, the wire thjat comes out of the bottom of the cover
is so dam close to the HOT exhaust i dont dare to leave town for fear the bike will leave me stranded when the wire burns up ..

Was wondering if i should drill a new hole in the front or top of the cam cover to get this wire away from my exhaust? What do you think ?

Move the wire clamp to the bolt above where it is now.

My factory manual shows the wire clamp on the next screw to the right, or towards the front of the bike.

That wire always has a tough time! On the other hand most of us get by without ever thinking about it. Your routing looks as good as it is ever going to be.

I'm with Beemervet on this one. I would try to get the wire as far away as possible (without drilling any more holes) from the exhaust.
Alternatively, you could look around in electrical/electronics supply stores for the best heat resistant wire loom you can find that'll fit.
Or maybe do both!
Hey, how did it turn out with the odd noise you were chasing?

Default the hell with the noise ..

I have open exhaust and its so loud it shakes houses when i cruse by. But the engine still sounds like its metal to metal some where and it dam near as loud as the open pipes. I feel like an *** seting at the stop light as the engine sounds like a ****ing celment mixer but im just going to keep riding till it explodes! .. them i will know what the noise was comming from ..

I once had a 1000cc 1980s Kawasaki Poilice bike and i put 200k on that and all i ever did was change the oil once every spring.. I say the heck with the HD bikes as they are over rated and over priced .. I love the loud thump thay make when running but working on them and paying the high parts tag .... Bla` it aint worth it !

Default Sorry`

Sorry to sound like a bastard .. but im too old to fart around with working on a bike more than i can ride it ... The price of parts or to get some help working on it is just crazy... Gosh dern 1985 1340 evo should be cheep to buy parts for like a 1985 chevy pickup... This is killing me.. you got to have a lot of money to own a drive Harley... It never used to be that way in the 60s ..
I remember a Harley biker used to be a FREE wheelin` dude who just rode where life whould take him... Now you got to have a ****ing bank role or mega bucks to be a "wanna be biker`.

sorry for miss spelling .. im typing with one finger ..

Easyist thing you can do is take a piece of vehicle fuel line about 2" long or what ever you need, cut it down the side, and wrap it around the wires. I learned that from protecting throttle cables on Dodge Power Wagons, keeping them away from headers.
