I can't think of what would have changed for the exhaust in 85 to 86. Transmission cover/clutch cable changed in 87. I don't know how your mufflers attach to the rails, but if that's the same (2 bolts, sliding thingie, rubber pieces) then it's probably something like the muffler to head pipe attachment.
I put a 2007 FLHT(e-i-e-i-OOOOh) exhaust on my 86. Bolted up perfect and was about one bill delivered off of eBay.
They changed the mount under the saddlebag and also added that flange on the ends of the head pipes and the muffler. Avoid that year, Any bagger exhaust from 95-08 should do you good
