Default Evo oil pump Question

I've got a 1991 E-Glide with the 1340 evo engine. I would like to install a gearotor pump to get the volume it puts out. If the pump fits a 1992 why won't it fit my 1991?
Cheers,
Fritz

They changed the bolt pattern and there is just enough difference at the bottom inside bolt, it won't work. In fact, the difference in gaskets is so slight, it's real easy to pickup the wrong one. And someone correct me if I'm mistaken, the outer gasket (for the cover) is the same because the cover is slotted on the inboard holes.

On the stock pump covers, the outlets are different also, though most aftermarket pumps allow for either configuration.

If you are considering installing a stronger bypass spring or adding shim to the same to increase oil pressure - I highly recommend against that. A stock oil pump will produce as much volume and pressure as ANY aftermarket pump. There is a technique to bring them back to factory specs, or better, so long as the gears are OK and the inner housing is not badly scored.

Harley engines don't require a lot of oil pressure, in fact, most engines don't. Is there a reason you want more volume? Engine builders found out years ago that too much oil pressure is just one more thing the engine has to work against.

well, I've been told that the stock pump did not supply enough oil to all parts when the motor was hot and at idle. Come to think of it my machine is sound and running well, but it only had 45,000 miles on it. I just want to keep it going, can't afford a new one!
Cheers!

An EVO engine should have between 7-10 lbs. per thousand RPM. If you have that you are normal, any more is a plus, but not needed in a street engine.
