I had this same issue, check your plugs, wires, then check every wire to your coil. I was having the exact same symptoms and was told that I needed a new ignition module as well. But when I did the visual inspection on my coil I found that the ground wire to my front cylinder had broken inside the wire, when I pulled the coil off the bracket it fell in two, quick wire repair and the bike ran great.
Thanck for all the help. I have had the bike since it was new. The same thing happened when it was a few years old and it was the sensor plate. I have replaced the coil once before. The wires arent that old. But Iam just going to buy a coil and wires go over the whole thing. Then see if it is the module. Thanks again everyone for your advise.
I just purchased a S E module from my dealer for my 87 TC. The part# is 32596-96. It was $120 plus a harness #32408-90 for $42. The module is no longer listed in their parts book, however my dealer called around and located one for me. As advised check for any obvious problems first. Hope this helps

We have an unwritten rule here in the Evo section; If you ask advice and do something (or everything) different and it doesn't work out or you spend a lot of time and money to find out you were wrong and others were right - you HAVE to tell it only fair!
Just ragging you - well, not really. We've all done it.... trust me.
Glad you found the exact part you wanted and hope you get the 87 "back on all fours" soon
Don't mind getting ragged on-but I thought BB4xl was asking for a part #. As it just happens I recently installed that S E module, a Crane 210 cam, new HD lifters, adj pushrods and 20 over KB pistons in my 87 tour classic. Sure woke up this 22 yr old evo. Nothing for the dragstrip but it puts a smile on my face!

I thought it was him I quoted... I don't see so good sometimes. Somebody asked me once what kind of movies do I like. I replied; "the ones with happy endings"

I've got to say, you've got the right guys replying to your thread BB4xl..... Great wealth of knowledge and experience in this area..... But, this is by far the best advise I've read so far.. K.I.S.S. is always the best way to start... The other guys are probably right on. But, before you go spending $2-300, break out the Ohm meter and do some checking.. You may find a corroded ground or high resistance in a plug wire.. You'll probably end up replacing everything like the others recomend anyhow, but you'll kick yourself if you find out it was something simple and possibly free.... Anyhow, back to the guys who've been, there done that....
Once again thanks for all the advice. As soon as I find the problem I willl let everyone know. Right now I am on disability so my money is alittle tight. I am waiting on check now. Then I will pick up a coil and wires first. Thanks Bob
