Hi Iam new here and could use some help. I have a 1987 FLHTC I have had it since it was new. I am getting ignition backfires and then it will die. This starts when it gets hot. It will start back up once it cools down (10-15 mins) and start back up as soon as it gets hot. I repalced the sensor plate, but it still does it. It has a Sceaming eagle module and I would like to replace it with the same one. I have a cam, pipes carb etc. I called the dealer and they told me good luck. I have to take the module off and try to find a part#. Does anyone know of a source for these modules. Thank you for any help.
my original module went bad on my 1985 FXWG. it would just cut off, and later restart fine. I replaced it with the screaming eagle module because it was much cheaper then the OE one. I had to get the wiring harness adapter for my 1985.
Your local dealer is FOS. I have a SE module on my '86 FLHT that I put on about '88 or so. The accessory catalog listed them for all the big twins then, same module, "Off Road Use Only, and when used on FLHT bikes be sure to use harness extender cable xxx-xx" because the wires were set up for the module wherever they put them on the rest, and when you put it on your full dress bike to take "off road" you needed the extra length cable.
+1 on the coil. Generally with any gas engine if the problem comes when warm and fixes itself when it cools off, look first to the coil. Borrow a known good one and see if it fixes your problem. If you're going to buy a new one, think about one of the high voltage ones like the SE.
Like others, if replacing the module, you might try a programmable one . Local shop has had good luck with Dyna modules and terrible luck with Cranes. I personally have no experience with either so I can't say for sure.

Let me re-prase that, my dealer told me they dont offer one anymore.
